Wood in good condition with minor knocks and dings. Butt plate has both matching serial numbers and a rack number. Butt has a faint Crown stamped to RH side. Rear ladder sight graduated to 1000yards. Woodwork with usual usage marks. No major dings. Stock, wrist and fore wood chequered. Steel trigger guard and butt plate. Lock marked ‘John Dickson & Son, Edinburgh 1860’. Lock border line engraved. Correct clearing rod in place. Silver insert on right side of stock with some lettering. May have been a prize rifle. Case hardened action with smooth mottled grey appearance. Barrel is leather covered with missing area just in front of rear sight. Apart from that, leather very good for age. Butt with usual dings and scratches. Brass butt plate. Left side of action marked ‘Sharps Patent 1859’. Right side marked ‘Sharps & Hankins, Philada’. Total production about 8000. 1862-1865.
